What is a Young Republican?
Young Republicans are people between the ages of 18 and 40 who are interested in taking an active role in Republican politics. They are organized as a special group because as young people, they have different opportunities and situations to incorporate into their political activity.

Young Republicans take part in GOP activities in their communities, doing everything from voter registration drives, to phone bank operations, to being campaign managers and running for public office themselves. They provide crucial support to the Republican party, and work to ensure the future of the party in their communities and nationwide.

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 40 is eligible to be a Young Republican. The best way to organize is on the local level, because the foundation of the Young Republicans is built from the grassroots level on up.

What is the purpose of a Young Republican organization?
A Young Republican ("YR") local Club provides the opportunity for young people who are interested in good government to:

  1. Learn about their governmental and political institutions
  2. Participate in the political process
  3. Become better informed and more involved citizens

Through the YR's, they can develop their political knowledge and understanding of the issues of the day, and as citizens become more effective voters and campaign workers. By participating in the local Club, they may assist in selecting candidates for public office and then may elect those candidates by actively helping them in their campaigns.

YR's provides a unique opportunity for an interested young Republican to meet with the decision makers in society and to meet like-minded individuals in their own community and across the nation.

What activities would interest me?
Activities include:

  • Monthly meetings of YR organizations, to meet others and discuss common interests
  • Leadership training to help our members serve effectively as precinct and district officers
  • Campaign activities to get Republican candidates elected to office
  • Campaign management programs to train YRs to become campaign managers and candidates
  • Debate forums to discuss important issues of interest to Republicans
  • Weekly e-mail updates to keep members informed of political activities and relevant issues
  • Special events to give YRs a chance to meet elected officials and Party leaders

What if there is no Young Republican group for my county?
You can either go to the area nearest you or consider starting your own group. All meetings are open to people from any area and you are welcome to attend events anywhere you like.

Can I start a new Young Republican group for my area?
We are always expanding. If you would like to be a part of starting a group in your area, contact Daniel Reiff, State Chair. He will be more than happy to consider this with you.

Why would I want to join? What's in it for me?
Monica Samuels of the YRNF explains: History records that most of the world's great leaders did not just stumble out of the cave in which they grew up and suddenly lead armies into battle or begin political movements. Instead, nearly every great leader one can think of... Washington... Jefferson... Lincoln (to name a few)...were surrounded by and buoyed up by a network of people committed and dedicated to a common cause. Our generation will be no exception.

Somewhere in America today are the future Senators, Congressmen, Governors, and even Presidents, who will lead our generation and help us in leaving our legacy for history to record. Are their last names Kennedy or Stephanopoulos? Will they have a "D" or an "R" after their names...or something else entirely? All of that, of course, is yet to be determined, but still well within our control. As Americans under the age of forty, we have the power today to shape what our political future holds tomorrow. That's where you may come in.

If you are under forty and believe that America's future success lies in local communities and the private sector working together for the common good and not in the dictates of some massive bureaucratic federal program run out of Washington as Democrats believe, then you might just consider joining the Young Republicans.

If you believe in personal responsibility and individual freedom, then the Young Republicans might be for you.

If you want to have the right and the opportunity to make your own decisions about your future retirement, and if you fear and believe that the current Social Security system offers little if anything to your own future economic security, consider joining us and help change Social Security for the better.

If you believe that the future economic success of the United States, both at home and in the global marketplace, rests at its foundation with a strong sound education system in which parents are actively involved and engaged, we need your help in fighting for quality education at all levels of America's education system coast to coast.

If you believe that America is losing the basic core values which helped bring it from British colony to world superpower, and you would like to help reverse that trend, then you may consider becoming a Young Republican.

The Young Republican National Federation is an activist organization. We do not just say we are for building stronger, safer communities throughout the United States, we are committed to investing our time and energies in doing everything necessary to make such goals a reality.

If you are interested in making a positive contribution to your country and to your future, please consider taking the first step towards doing so by joining the Young Republicans.
