Here is the speech that our own Jeff Peil gave last Thursday (November 5th) when asked to give a speech on the current "Public Option" Healthcare debate:
The reason we are all gathered here today is to make two important statements. First and foremost, Michelle Bachmann, John Kline, and Erik Paulsen – Thank you for standing opposed to the public option, you have our FULL SUPPORT. Second – to all of you representatives who want to hop on the Obama bandwagon and lead this country blindly down a path toward FISCAL RUIN, PERSONAL OPPRESSION, and SOCIALISM – your vote for the public option ensures you will have no vote from us! That’s the kind of change WE believe in.
Make no mistake about it. We are once again teetering on the precipice. What our congressmen and women have before them is not a mere healthcare bill. It is a behemoth. Its 2000 pages are a case study in how to create useless bureaucracies, further complicate an already confusing healthcare system, and how to make government a bedfellow in every American’s life – from conception until death. This is not a vote for or against a novel idea. It is a choice to be made for all Americans. Do Americans want a constitutional government that promotes freedom and individual liberty – a government OF, BY, and FOR the people? Or do we want a government that has a say in every aspect of our private lives? I vote for freedom and liberty!
Now some may say that I’m exaggerating the potential harm and danger of this legislation. That only a conservative hack would speak of this legislation with such inflammatory rhetoric. Surely I can’t mean what I have been saying… But I mean every word. What is being proposed by the Democrat party is a sweeping and systematic assault on our health care rights. The public option exists simply to drive competition out of the insurance market, so that government remains the only insurer. Once government has a vested financial interest in your health, then they will have full control over your day to day life. If they financially suffer every time someone makes an unhealthy life decision, how long do you think it is before they start fully regulating any health decision you make?
As dire as this soon-to-be reality might seem, there is hope. You see because the democrats didn’t count on the fact that they may have won the battle for the white house, but they did it at the expense of losing the war of ideas. Why is it that they are so keen on introducing competition into the Healthcare debate? Rather than simply advocate the public option for what it is: a hostile government takeover, they are claiming it will “introduce competition into the health insurance industry.” They are doing it because conservatives succeeded in convincing America that phrases like “big government” and “tax increase” are dirty. Policies that do not offer “choice” and foster “competition” are simply not viable. Yet, rather than trying to represent themselves for what they are – big government, tax-and-spenders – they stole our language and convinced the American public that they were the party of fiscal responsibility. In other words, they knew that they couldn’t get elected if they told voters who they were, so they led voters to believe they were conservative! We are winning the debate!
So what do we do going forward? Those of us – us young people standing here today – represent the future of the conservative movement. As such we need to make a stand. We simply cannot allow this universal health insurance bill to pass. We need to show our support for those legislators that stood in the face of tyranny and did everything they could to stop it. And most importantly we need to thank God that we still live in a country that allows us to stand up to oppression and make our voices heard. We are Americans, and we will not tolerate oppression. We need to promise each other here and now as we stare over the precipice looking into the abyss that is socialized medicine: any lawmaker who votes for this bill will face the same fate as Creigh Deeds and John Corzine – they will get voted out of office. It is a time for choosing. And the choice is liberty or tyranny.
Thank you for your time.
